My story begins as a little boy and the only grandfather he knew of. My grandfather worked most of his life for the Kellogg company in a machine shop located in Battle Creek, Michigan. When I was around the age 9 - 10 my grandfather had taken me to the first place that I would ever get my first experiance with steam engines - Mason, Michigan. Ever since my first visit in the late 80's to Charleton Park and The Steam Threshers show, I have been hooked on steam.
Years Later I would get one of my first real jobs working in a machine shop near Plainwell, Michigan. It is here where I got my basic knowledge of lathe machining and milling. After having served in the machine shop I moved on with various types of employment. In doing so, I achieved a goal of getting a builders license for the state of Michigan and would serve the general public doing remodeling and construction.

In early 2010 I would go on to serve on the board of directors for The Steam Railroading Institute located in Owosso, Michigan. It's there where I met a lot of new faces and gained more knowledge for my passion in life - Steam Engines. Cercumstances beyond my control had forced me to resign from The Steam Railroading Institute in early 2011 when a life changing event took place in my life. Shortly there after I met Lisa whom I am now with and together we slowly invested into what now is known as The Whistle Shop. There are those of you out there who have helped make this little shop something more than just a hobby. And to those who have I say Thank You.

Now as Lisa and I travel this new found road with our little shop here in Waterford, Michigan, we would invite you to grow with us. As with any new small business, there will be challenges that we face. But our ultimate goal is to serve the people who make us what we are​ in a timely manner.
